Palm Springs

We had a GREAT time in Palm Springs this last week. It was a LONG drive both ways. Monday we went to Corona Del Mar. What a nice beach. Lucky for us it was a nice day. (unlike later that week when the tornados blew threw) The sand was hot, the waves were big and everyone had a great time playing. We even managed about half an hour of sand volleyball before our feet burned. Tamina took a face plant during the game due to uneven ground, but she came out on top. The waves beat the boys up a bunch, but they loved jumping in them. We also had fun making a sand castle. The castle part didn't make it too far, but the wall and moat were great! Adam and Ari loved digging in the sand. It was a great babysitter...put them in the moat give them thier shovels and tell them to dig. (Of course, you kept an eye on them, but they loved it...especially Ari.) And what's a day at the beach without a few sunburns. The boys all got great decorative sunburns. (I kept me and the kids well covered though, so no burns! :D )

On Tuesday we went to the Oasis. It was really cool. You always hear about a group of palm trees showing up in the middle of the desert and you see it on movies...but we saw it for reals! It was nice and cool in the grove of trees and kind of like going into a movie set. You know the kind the jungle, with the hero and the girl freaking out because something is going to jump out of her from somewhere in all the trees. Anyway...It was really cool. We also hiked over to a different grove and saw a pond with pup fish and some sort of red crusteation. Matt risked his hand several times sticking it in to attract the pond life. Adam also got a HUGE sliver as we were leaving the pond. It spanned almost his whole palm, and it was broken so we just had to open the skin all the way to get all the pieces out. But he was a trooper.

Wednesday we played at the park. The kids played on the playground while most of the others played a hot game of basketball. It was toowindy for volleyball or frisbee, but after the game of basketball they did play soccer. We also went swimming several times. That evening we went to the outlet stores. Jon got a killer deal for some new work shoes . :)

Thursday we went to the Living Desert. (which is the zoo just outside Palm Springs) It was really cool. We went a wildlife show where they showed us a red-tailed hawk, an opposum, a porcupine, a cat (I don't remember the name but it was really pretty and really cool) and two rats. We wandered around looking at the animals. In the small animal house, they had a tortise that was crawling around in its window. Ari kept running up to it growling, to scare it, and then running away. It was funny. We also went to the petting kraal. Ari was terrified of all the goats and sheep walking around, but Adam pet them and brushed them. They also had a SUPER train display. It was HUGE. They had canyons, lakes, cities, countrysides, bridges and trains running all around the tracks. Not to mention that the buildings had sounds, like the saw mill had a spinning saw and the sounds with it. It was really cool...and of course, Adam LOVED it. Thursday evening we went to the art museum. There was some cool art, and some odd art. The kids loved the wooden hut type things because they could go in them and touch them. They got bored quickly since there was a lot of, "Stay here, don't touch..." The other thing that was really cool was a room full of diaramas. They were so intricate and detailed. Adam liked the firehouse one.

Unfortunately the end of the week was cold and rainey, but the start was nice and warm. (In the 100s.) So Friday we spent a lot of time inside playing games, but we did go check out some of the souviner shops. We decided they were all pretty much the same though. Jackson Hole had better selection of things to see while you were out perusing the shops.

Then Saturday we had the LONG drive home. All in all it was a GREAT vacation...and much needed! It was so fun to see Tim and Terra for the whole week! We have missed them terribly but know Tim needs to get that Pharmacist degree! He'll be great! It was also fun to spend time with Adam and Mel and Kale before they head out to Texas for law school. We will miss them...but wish them best of luck there. And it was just fun to be with everyone and have everyone together. (Which won't happen very often anymore.) Anyway..thanks for such a great trip and hopefully I'll get the pictures posted soon. (I gotta pull them off the camera....) Everyone feel free to post things I forgot or pictures that you have! Love you all!

** Sieben commented "The trip was way fun! A couple of holes from the Living Desert trip: the cat was a serval, and yes, it was gorgeous. It is the only cat to have both spots and stripes. It also has very long and dextrous legs. Maybe most impressively, it can jump FIVE times its height into the air.

The other thing at the zoo that you failed to mention was the African cows. (I don't remember what they are called.) They had horns that were somewhere between 12 and 18 feet apart (I'm not kidding!) They are docile, but their horns are filled with blood, and they wiggle them back and forth to stay cool in the heat.

One other thing from the trip worth mentioning was all the fresh fruit. There were fruit trees everywhere at the condos, and we had fun finding and picking the fruit.

That's it." **

** Moo commented "Thanks Sieb! I'm glad you remembered the name of the serval. I really do appreciate help in remembering everything...I'm losing my mind with each of my kiddos! ;) Hey we now have a few pictures up from the trip check them out in the gallery!" **
