Labor Day Weekend Campout
We had a great time going camping with the Morgans over (most of) the Labor Day weekend. We went up to Bear Lake. It is beautiful up there. On Friday, we did the driving... We arrived in shifts. Brady and Kim got up there first. Jen and Tamina got there next. Grandma and Grandpa got there after that. And way later...after dinner and right before bed, Jon and Chris made it up.
Friday was still fun. We got up there and got stuff set up and dinner made. The kids played. We had dutch oven chicken and cornbread. YUM! We need the cornbread recipe from Kim. ;) Then we roasted smores. Also very YUMMY! Then we went off to bed. Adam was SO SO excited because he got to sleep in Grandma and Grandpa's tent.
Well, that first night we started the adventure. Jon grabbed the air mattress; however, he grabbed the one with a hole in it. So he grabbed the stuff to patch it...but it didn't hold the air. About 2 AM we ran out of air. I woke up with contractions. So finally we moved me to the car to sleep the rest of the night. Well, besides being lots COLDER, there was also a flashing red light. So I didn't sleep that well the rest of the night. Oh welll, we were having fun camping.
The next day we spent down on the beach. It was a beautiful day. We played some sand volleyball...and yes the other teams plan worked...aim at the prego since she can't get it as easy! Laughing But we had fun. Jon, Chris and Dad built a sand castle, the kids "helped" and then became the moat monsters. So we basically just played. For dinner we had tin foil dinners, they were so good! After we had shakes and cobbler. Talk about a sugar overload. But everyone, especially the kids were beat. There were a few rides on Kim and Brady's 4-wheeler. But we were in bed by like 9:30. (Kim was so kind to let us borrow the spare mattress from the trailer so that we didn't have to sleep on the ground.)
Well, more adventure. So about 11ish...I think I wake up because the wind was getting really loud. Then the walls would cave in and pop back out. Then the roof would do the same. I had Jon move the lantern that was hanging from the top so that it wouldn't hit the kids. (Adam and Ari were in the middle of the tent. Jon and I were on one side and Chris and Jen on the other.) Then Jon, Chris, Jen and I started holding the walls and top out so it wouldn't come in on us. However, both kids woke up and were scared. Kim had us move them to the trailer. Grandma and Grandpa's tent pole broke a second time. (It had broken earlier during the day, but they had fixed it to still work) So they decided it was best to take the tents down. My kids were scared so I sat with them in the trailer. Everyone else cleaned up the two tents and gear. Chris and Jen decided to leave and go find either a hotel or go home...more comfortable. Grandma and Grandpa slept in the back of their car. Jon, the kids and I slept in the trailer. It blew on and off the rest of the night.
The next morning we got up and got ready for church. Adam showed us how well he could write his name during sacrament meeting. He is doing SO good. After sacrament meeting Grandma and Grandpa went home so that Grandpa could get to meetings. We went back to help Kim and Brady clean up a bit. Then we headed for home. We stopped in Roy to pick up the other car. Since the kids both slept on the way home, both Jon and I took catnaps at the Morgans. We headed home in the rain and were happy not to be in tents that night. :)
We had a great time! We were glad that we were able to find a time when almost everyone could make it. We were especially glad that Grandpa was able to come for it.
